PEG tube displacement

  • Stop feeding immediately. If the tube becomes displaced before the stoma is fully established there is the possibility of feed or gastric contents leaking into the peritoneal cavity.
  • Insert a Foleys catheter into the stoma
  • Inflate the Foleys catheter and ensures it rotates with ease and can be moved in and out of the stomach easily
  • Do not use Foleys catheter- refer to Nutrition specialist nurse or gastroenterologist
  • Keep the patient hydrated with SC/IV fluids
